The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a measure of the economic output of a country, has become one of the most powerful statistics of our time. It has, however, been used in unintended ways, including as a proxy for wealth creation, wellbeing and development. Ahead of the Summit of the Future (SOF) in September 2024, the UN Secretary-General has made a suite of recommendations to address these structural challenges to advance sustainable development, including proposals to develop a universal and comprehensive measurement of progress on sustainable development to complement GDP. Join us for a discussion on valuing what counts, what the UN is doing to advance this topic and how you can influence the discussion.
