Trains at Tolono and Champaign, Illinois, 13.08.12: NS, CN & Amtrak

On my way back from Indianapolis, I swung by the Champaign-Urbana area, and caught a few trains: Train 1: SD75I #5669 and BC Rail C44-9W #4646 lead a manifest south, across the NS Lafayette District (ex-Wabash) diamonds at Tolono. There are some pretty well-preserved ex-Rock Island cars in the consist. Train 2: A Norfolk Southern local with GP38-2s #5344 and high-hood 5155 (with CG [Central of Georgia] sublettering) heads east on the old Wabash, crossing CN / IC. Train 3: The local meets an NS road freight headed for Decatur. NS 2592 (a later-model SD70M), and C40-9W #8925 are in charge. Train 4: Seen from a few blocks away in town, C40-9W #9920, SD60M #6798 and C40-8 #8694 lead a vehicle/intermodal train across the CN/IC diamond. Train 5: Later on, in Champaign, Amtrak's southbound 'Illini' gives its departure horn blasts and heads out of Illinois Terminal (the large building in the background) and past the University of Illinois' power plant on its way downstate to Carbondale. The old Coca-Cola bottling plant and some funny graffiti are seen nearby. ~Thanks for watching!~
