Followed by an oak and hoppy bitter after taste on the back end. For me, the beer is better fresh because the chocolate, caramel, tobacco and fruit are more apparent and the bitter hoppy after taste is not quite as strong.. The longer it sits the hoppier and more bitter it gets. (But if you like bitterness, that's a good thing!) I would have rated this beer higher had I gotten more of the oak flavor and coffee notes that I love in a good stout, instead of the hoppy bitter flavor. Overall, this is a good beer for the stout fans and those that like a combination of hops and chocolate creamy stouts! It definitely lives up to the Russian Imperial impression....so if that's what you like, you should NOT be disappointed!
