Original tunes: Niney: Blood & Fire – Lightning & Thunder – The Observers: Chapter 10 (Mood Of The Observers) – Niney: Mud & Water – Brimstone & Fire. Niney the Observer, born George Boswell in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a legendary reggae producer and singer whose fingerprints are all over the golden age of roots reggae. He earned the nickname “Niney” after losing a thumb in a workshop accident, and later adopted “The Observer” as a nod to Lee “Scratch” Perry’s moniker “The Upsetter”. His breakout hit “Blood & Fire” in 1970 became a reggae anthem and helped launch his Observer label. He was known for crafting deep, conscious rhythms and dubplates that defined the sound system culture of the era. Niney also worked as a sound engineer for Joe Gibbs, replacing none other than Lee “Scratch” Perry, and later collaborated with Channel One Studios, producing for artists like Beenie Man and Sugar Minott. If you’re into dub, roots, or classic reggae, Niney’s catalog is a treasure trove.
