Exploring The Empty Beach Towns Of Cornwall In Winter

When most people think of Cornwall, they think of summer beach holidays. Bustling holiday resorts and sun kissed fun by the coast are definitely the norm in Summer, but what are these places like in winter? I chose to explore Perranporth and Newquay on a grim January day when all the tourists are nowhere near. I chose these town towns because they are very much resort towns, set up mainly to fulfil the needs of the summer influx of tourists. They are a very different scene in winter. Shops, cafes, pubs and hotels close and the jobs disappear with them. Left behind are the locals. Some have to struggle all winter and wait for the tourists money to return in the warmer months.
