The watercooler (aka gathering place for coffee) has always been a way to learn about what's going on in the office, department or organization. In these discussions, we learn through osmosis what is going on literally and culturally in an informal way. Working virtually, it is important to create a space for informal discussion whether at the beginning or end of meetings, as a place to go to catch up or as a specific event where people can catch up with their friends in groups.
