Anfal 2.0 Kurdi

A documentary film made in Iraq in 2008-2009. Oral history told after 20 years by survivors of the Anfal campaign started by Saddam Hussein and led by his cousin and henchman "Chemical Ali" in the kurdish region after the end of the war with Iran in 1988. Most of them are widows trying to move on in a rapidly changing men's world. The film aims to awake a different kind of perception in north Iraq for the Anfal survivors, who were often reduced to complaining victims of events that took place a long (?) time ago. By showing people reflecting about the meaning in their lives of the burden of telling the tale of something terrible, as reminder for the need of justice, the film seeks an approach to today's kurdish society in Iraq. It enhaces the relation of victims and survivors with people who were not directly affected by genocide, as well as the role played by the kurdish resistance and not least the role played by western countries at that time as suppliers for all the military needs that Saddam Hussein could pay for.
