This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. One of the biggest questions of our time: is mankind alone in the universe? NASA scientist Colin Goldblatt tells us just how we can answer that question - without ever leaving earth. University of Victoria professor in the department of Earth and Ocean Sciences who studies the evolution of climate, geochemistry and life on the Earth and on Earth-like planets (exoplanets!). Colin is also a collaborator at the NASA Astrobiology Lab. http://www.colingoldblatt.net/ TEDxVictoria takes place each year in Victoria, BC, Canada, and is Vancouver Island's largest TEDx event. This year marked the fourth year of the event, which saw more than 700 people gather at the century-old McPherson Playhouse for a full day of Ideas Worth Spreading based around the theme of Pursuit of Knowledge. www.tedxvictoria.com About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
