THE SPOILERS / MORT SUBITE - “Split” 7” (Friet - 33/D.I.Y.R.1) 1980 • Like most people I know, I found my way to this record through hearing “Ich Liebe Ulrike” on the Killed By Epitaph compilation that Tim Yo booted. I was bowled over by that song and hoped that the rest of the Mort Subite stuff was as exciting. And it is. I love the recording and the saxophone playing on here is stellar. When I got this I finally got to hear The Spoilers too. Limburg’s first punk band. What a treat. I don’t understand what they were thinking starting their side off with a two and a half minute instrumental but it was the 70s so maybe their judgement was impaired… The other two songs are great though. Sadly, this excellent split EP seems to be the only output from either group. I would love to hear more. Especially from Mort Subite. At least this thing clocks in at 17 minutes.
