The People of Colour in Tech panel will be based around Diversity and Inclusion, where we’ll discuss the current challenges POC working in the technology industry face, the power of allyship and how we can encourage and support diversity. Come along to hear discussions on these topics from our panel of inspiring individuals. You’ll leave the panel with an understanding of the systemic challenges POC may face and experiences from our panelists. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About our Panelists: Vicky Twomey-Lee is a coder, mentor, tech event organiser and advocates diversity in tech. She's very much involved with the tech community for awhile now, from running Python Ireland for over 10 years in the past to being the only person representing Europe on the Python Software Foundation Grants Workgroup as well as actively running meet-ups for PyLadies Dublin (founder) amongst many other not-for-profit initiatives. She curates Irish tech events and news for Coding Grace's monthly newsletters and always looking for opportunities to collaborate with other tech community groups. In her day job, she currently is working full-time as the Maker Advocate as part of SFI funded 2 year programme hosted by DCU. Oluchi is an Associate Software Engineer at Fidelity Investments where she is part of an effective team delivering quality Fixed Income solutions such as Bond Beacon. While studying at NUI Galway, she volunteered at numerous events within the university to promote Computer Science to prospective and current students. As a former director of Synapse Galway, Oluchi believes in providing collaborative spaces and events for her local tech community and helping to foster an interest in the technology industry for young children in Ireland and abroad. She was recently featured in Silicon Republic speaking about her experience as a graduate entering the corporate world. Mentorship has played a huge part in her burgeoning career and her next goal is to pay-it-forward as much as possible. Lais Carvalho is a Developer and Community advocate for OpenTeams. Open source enthusiast, she previously advocated for Kedro, a Python library that applies software engineering best practice to data science projects. Final year IT student, her background is in Civil & Env. Engineering and Customer Service. Board member of Python Ireland, Laís also volunteered for EuroPython 2020, co-organise Pyjamas and hosted the PyData Dublin Summer edition of the same year.
