Route and terrain: The pass climbs from about 1,544m in South Africa to 2,876m in Lesotho, featuring sharp hairpin bends and steep gradients, including sections as steep as \(1:3\). It's a notoriously difficult drive, so a 4x4 is essential and a 4x4 tour is recommended if you lack experience or the right vehicle. Both border posts have specific opening and closing times, so it's important to plan your trip to ensure you clear both by the 6 pm cutoff. Key features: The summit is home to the highest pub in Africa, a popular stop for visitors. This is the channel first border crossing and no better to mark the occasion with a off-road adventure up Sani and into Lesotho a underrated destination.
