Inferior Turbinates are scroll-like swellings in the lateral border of the nose - there may be 3-4 of them and the lowest one is called the Inferior Turbinate. Inferior Turbinates may enlarge or swell up as a result of allergy, infection, deviated nasal septum (on the opposite side), or sometimes after indiscriminate use of nasal decongestants which cause a condition called Rhinitis Medicamentosa.
