Welcome to my comprehensive look at Arth, a Swiss town (municipality: 12,000 people) on the shores of Lake Zug, in the canton of Schwyz. The town has a beautiful location, being between Lakes Zug and Lauerz, and in almost every view of its streets and buildings there are mountains in the background. As usual in Switzerland, you can get here on public transport by scheduled passenger boat or train from Zurich, Lucerne or Basel, and while there is motor traffic in the town, it is not excessive. There is also a connection here to the “queen of the mountains” cog railway which will take you up the Rigi. Arth is in the heart of Switzerland’s cherry growing area, and kirsch is an important product here. My film, taken on a sunny day in early spring, shows the beauty of Arth’s lakeside setting, as well as looking at its buildings, ranging from traditional Swiss style architecture to colourful modern designs. It shows a small amount of industry and business, including petrol stations, hotels, restaurants, and a large building site with big cranes working. There are some grand buildings and churches, with apartments on the main streets too. A good place to live!
