Join Red Hill’s Director of Historic Preservation & Collections, Cody Youngblood, for a look into the life of Critty and her job as the possible cook at Red Hill in the 1790s. This virtual talk will be streamed LIVE on Red Hill’s social media pages. About the talk: A cook was one of the most important positions at an 18th-century plantation. Their expertise in food preparation, food storage, and recipe creation ensured the successful operation of both the kitchen and their enslavers’ home. Critty, who may have been the cook at Red Hill, was enslaved by Patrick Henry with her three sons. This talk will explore Critty’s incredible legacy as a highly adept chef and how her day-to-day life is documented, remembered, and acknowledged today. Event registration: This event is FREE and will be streamed on Red Hill’s social media pages.
