Welcome to one of the Oregon Coast’s best-kept secrets—Hug Point Waterfall. Located in Clatsop County, Hug Point is part of the Hug Point State Recreation Site, found just 5 miles south of Cannon Beach and about 13 miles north of Manzanita. It’s nestled between Arch Cape and Cannon Beach, directly off Highway 101. This isn’t just a beach—it’s a natural wonderland featuring cliffs, caves, tide pools, and a rare waterfall that flows straight onto the sand. In this 7-minute video, we take you on a full walk-through of this beautiful area. What makes Hug Point special is its unique beach waterfall, which cascades down from a cliff and directly into the tidal zone—one of the very few places in Oregon where this happens. But here’s the key: You must visit during low tide. During high tide, the beach passage to the waterfall becomes completely submerged and impassable. The waterfall, the sea caves, and even the historic "stagecoach road" carved into the rock disappear under water. Low tide unlocks the adventure. You’ll see intricate tide pools filled with sea life like anemones, mussels, crabs, and maybe even a starfish or two. We explored deep sea caves that echoed with the sound of waves and wind—natural chambers carved over centuries by the relentless ocean. The surrounding cliffs showcase layers of ancient coastal geology, offering an otherworldly backdrop. The historic wagon trail, carved directly into the sandstone by 1800s stagecoaches, is visible only at low tide—and it’s something you truly have to see in person to appreciate. The waterfall itself is peaceful and serene, gently flowing even in summer. It’s not about power—it’s about the quiet elegance of nature meeting the sea. The contrast between falling water, black sand, jagged rock, and ocean spray creates an unforgettable setting. Bring waterproof shoes or sandals, and absolutely check the tide chart before visiting—this adventure depends on timing. We visited during golden hour, and the lighting made the entire area glow—especially the moss-covered waterfall and the shimmering tide pools. If you're lucky, you may spot harbor seals basking on nearby rocks or pelicans soaring over the surf. The area is pet-friendly and great for families, photographers, and nature lovers—but it remains relatively uncrowded compared to Cannon Beach. If you enjoy wild landscapes, accessible hikes, and a dash of history, Hug Point is a must. This video brings you the full experience—sights, sounds, and helpful tips—so you can plan your own low-tide adventure. We hope this inspires you to visit and respect this beautiful part of the Oregon coast.
