WBS Summary Task Activity

WBS SUMMARY is the type of activity and is used to assign Cost & Resources to WBS Summary OR Work Package Level which span over the duration of the that Package, It is type of "Top-Down Estimate" and is efficient technique to use when the Cost breakdown and/or resource assignment are not available for the activities under that particular WBS/Work-package level, for example but not limited to: 1) Installation of Elevator 2) Installation of Garbage Chute etc... Normally for above items there is only single BoQ item without further breakdown, whereas in the program it consists of several activities. In this scenario WBS Summary activity is one of the solution to assign cost and resources to WBS Level which relate to all activities under that WBS. To insert WBS Summary activity, we need to add an activity and change Activity type to "WBS Summary" and make further changes in Project-EPS for the "Unite rates for activities without resources" and "Resource Assignment". WBS Summary activity is resemble with the LEVEL OF EFFORT with the difference that it does not contain any relationships (Predecessor or Successor) In this video I try to give little brief/into of Earn Value Management to compute the Plan and Actual values.
