Homepage of BasscoverPete https://basscoverpete.com/ If you’re looking for a song which is ‘driven’ by the bass: this is such a song! The bass is very important in this song, without this main groove it would sound very very different. I like the way Tony Williams varies the main groove. The basic main groove van be found in for instance bar 5 and 6. But he sure makes some really nice variations. Look/listen for instance at bar 23 where he plays two 16th notes instead of the eight note in the regular main groove. And he ends the main groove in bar 24 with a D note, leading into the G7 chord. And of course there’s this really nice melodic bassline in the Chorus on the A7 and C-G chords. Listen for instance at bar 17 and 18. And please listen how he varies the second bar of this bassline. Almost every second bar is different. If you compare bars 28; 30; 56 and 68 with each other you’ll see what I mean. And I really love this lick in bar 68, which he repeats in bar 94. The high C followed by the B note is just really great. Next to buying a transcription you can also support me by making a donation so I’m able to continue making these videos on YouTube.
