The final segment of this 24-day tour started with us visiting Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. In the afternoon, my family walked across the bridge over the Zambezi River to the border of Zambia, from where we hailed a "taxi" to the town of Livingstone. After a second night in the Shearwater Explorers Village, back in Zimbabwe, we set off the next day for Hwange National Park, the second largest in Africa (after Kruger). A memorable afternoon was spent at the Nyamandhlovu Pan, watching wildlife have their drink, particularly some of the tens of thousands of elephants in the park. The next destination was Matopos, after passing through Zimbabwe's second city, Bulawayo. We were fortunate to have Ian Harmer, MD of African Wanderer Safaris as our guide for the afternoon. Known as the "rhino whisperer" Ian naturally knew where to take the group to view the magnificent creatures, as well as for the best sunset views in Matobo. Next day, we crossed back into Botswana, driving through Francistown, to spend a night at the Stevensford Game Reserve by the bank of the Limpopo River. The final day was a short drive across the river at Groblers Bridge to enter South Africa, and drive to Johannesburg, where this epic journey ended in Sandton.
