The Holden Torana A9X, introduced in 1977, was a homologation special that quickly became one of Australia's most legendary racing cars. Built upon the LX Torana platform, it featured significant enhancements over its predecessors, most notably a redesigned front end to improve aerodynamics and a sophisticated rear-axle assembly. The A9X was powered by the robust 5.0-litre (308 cubic inch) V8 engine, but it was the chassis modifications—including disc brakes on all four wheels and a heavy-duty Salisbury differential—that truly set it apart. These engineering refinements were specifically geared towards endurance racing, giving the A9X a significant edge in braking, handling, and durability, which was critical for events like the Bathurst 1000.
