This line opened in 1917. Construction to extend the line was carried out from 1939 to 1941 at the request of the military, primarily for the purpose of transporting aircraft to the Nakajima Aircraft factory located along the line. Planes manufactured by Nakajima Aircraft include the Hayabusa (codenamed Oscar by the Allied forces). Also at the request of the military, a freight line was built further beyond Nishi-Koizumi Station, the current terminus, but this line was closed in 1976. Currently, it is a short local line that runs through the countryside. Its main users are commuters to factories along the line and students attending schools along the line. Nishi-Koizumi Station, the terminus, has signs in Spanish and Portuguese, as there are several factories nearby and many foreigners use the line.
