Huge EAR POLYP discovered during Ear Wax Removal !! -

This blocked ear wax removal extraction procedure is performed by UK pioneer and world-leading endoscopic ear wax removal specialist Mr Neel Raithatha (Consultant Audiologist) aka 'The Wax Whisperer’ at his clinic in Oadby, Leicester, UK. Ear wax removal is necessary when ear wax build up becomes impacted. Symptoms causes by earwax blockage include: earache (otalgia), conductive hearing loss, blocked ear, vertigo, tinnitus, itchiness and irritation, occlusion etc. The client attended with occluding ear wax in the right ear. He also has an ear polyp. The ear polyp was previously treated with antibiotics, but has since resurfaced. A referral was sent to the client’s GP upon his last appointment to recommend a referral to ENT, since they may decide to surgically remove it. I have advised the client to arrange an appointment with his GP if he so does wish to have this assessed by ENT again. The ear polyp itself is obstructing the natural migration of ear wax out of the ear. Indeed, the ear wax, alongside dead keratin, was coating the ear polyp and was trapped behind it. The client finds the ear polyp very sensitive, and therefore I had to be extremely cautious and delicate whilst attempting to remove it. For this reason, I decided against crocodile forceps, since the distal end would come in contact with the ear polyp. In addition, the ear wax was too soft for adequate removal using crocodile forceps. Using a combination of a Zoellner suction probe and Fine End Gauge 18, I was able to safely remove and extract the ear wax, including from behind the ear polyp, in what was quite a challenging and delicate procedure.
