UK-China relations in focus: What Starmer's Beijing visit means

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is on a four-day visit to Beijing and Shanghai, marking the first trip to China by a British prime minister in eight years. He is accompanied by a delegation of around 60 leaders from business, culture and industry, as London looks to reset and stabilize UK-China relations, pursue concrete trade and investment outcomes, and project a more consistent approach to Beijing after years of policy swings. This visit comes amid a series of recent trips to China by Western leaders, including those from Finland and Canada. So, what do we know so far about Prime Minister Starmer's China visit, and what outcomes can we realistically expect? More broadly, what do these renewed engagements by Western leaders tell us about the state of the world today and about China's growing role in it?
