Wide exterior of prison STORYLINE: The youngest son of former Indonesian President Suharto may have just been convicted of murder and sentenced to 15 years in jail, but his demeanor on Monday showed few traces of his ordeal. Hutomo Mandala Putra, better known as Tommy Suharto, was found guilty on Friday of ordering the murder of a Supreme Court justice who had sentenced him to 18 months in jail for graft. The 40-year-old former playboy, who at one point was said to control a business empire worth 800 (m) million US dollars, was convicted of illegal weapons possession, fleeing justice and ordering the assassination of justice Syafiuddin Kartasasmita. But visitors to Jakarta's Cipinang prison found a jovial man dressed in a polo shirt, knee-length baggy shorts and a new pair of tennis shoes leisurely playing other inmates in an indoor badminton court. Referring to his 15-year sentence, a smiling Tommy told reporters, "I feel a little bad but what can I do?". He declined to confirm reports that he planned to appeal his verdict, saying only that he would meet with his attorneys on Thursday to discuss the matter. Journalists were allowed to glimpse Tommy's prison cell, which features a television, private shower and toilet, as well as freshly painted walls. On one of those walls is a framed photograph from the late 1960's showing Tommy, his father and two of his siblings. The prison's warden, Ngusman, insisted Tommy is not getting any special treatment, though he acknowledged his cell had been renovated recently.
