Fishing the beaches of the Gold Coast for some big winter Tailor! The biggest Tailor of the session went 54cm and was my PB! I used 20lb braid and 20lb leader and casting metal slugs between 30-40 grams. The Gomoku Rod is light for a 8-12kg rod and has a soft tip for casting and cost only about A$100. The Stradic 5000 FL is a great beach spinning reel as it is light, super smooth, and can withstand the conditions of the surf if maintained regularly. It has a high gear ratio of 6:2:1 so you can really get those lures moving quickly for those high-speed Tailor strikes! Hitting the fish on the head was my only option as we did not have any tools on hand and did not want to suffocate the fish instead. Using blunt force is the most humane, effective and recommended way of killing a fish before letting them bleed out.
