One of the national goals of the SAR is for each chapter to plant and dedicate a Liberty Tree in every county it represents. The Stephen Holston Chapter has the unique distinction of representing six counties—five of which are named after Revolutionary War patriots. On Saturday, October 25th, we had the honor of dedicating a Liberty Tree at Fort Southwest Point in Kingston, Tennessee. While the fort itself dates to a period after the Revolution, it stands in Roane County—named for Revolutionary War patriot Archibald Roane. By the end of the war in 1783, Roane had already devoted a third of his life to serving his country. In this episode, we present the first of three segments documenting this meaningful Liberty Tree dedication ceremony. Following that, we’ll share a rebroadcast of the Revolutionary War Rarities podcast episode titled “Founding Youth.” Hosts Jim Griffeth and Jim Maples explore the ages of our Founding Fathers in 1776—from George Washington at 44, to Alexander Hamilton at just 20, and even a documented soldier who was only 15. While not mentioned in the podcast, our own Archibald Roane was just 16 when he began his service.
