Hillsborough County, Florida – On July 20, 2024, a marked police vehicle traveling in traffic was cut off by another vehicle that failed to yield the right of way while merging, forcing the officer to brake abruptly to avoid a collision. The driver continued to disregard the right of way, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop. During the stop, the driver falsely identified herself as her mother, who was listed as the registered owner of the vehicle. While speaking with the driver, officers observed multiple indicators of possible impairment, including watery and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, confusion, poor coordination, avoidance of eye contact, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver initially agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises but refused to complete them partway through. She was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence (second offense), driving on a suspended license, and failure to surrender a suspended driver’s license.
