Pure Adrenaline in Suicide Gorge!

Is there a more spectacular and adrenaline-fuelled adventure anywhere in South Africa? Suicide Gorge easily earns its infamous and iconic status, following a river course on which jumps from increasingly high waterfalls, climaxing in compulsory jumps well over 10m, and a massive optional 20m jump. Having done the trip once before, I couldn't wait to go back, and so Sbonelo, Anita, Campbell and I seized the first opportunity which came along! We were treated to near-perfect conditions, with bright sunshine to provide some relief from the icy Cape water. Permits for this hike are prohibitively expensive, as the requirement to go with someone who has been before makes the hike just a little more inaccessible. I recommend phoning Cape Nature well in advance, as the rules for eligibility are quite particular. Despite these obstacles, however, I consider the experience as a whole to be well worth it - there really isn't another hike quite like it!
