In the green, rolling hills of Igoji, where the mist hugs the tea bushes every morning, lived two sisters named Fortune and Favor. Though they were sisters, they were as different as sun and rain. The Two Sisters Fortune was the eldest. She was very fast and very busy. She believed that to have a good life, you had to grab everything first. The Lesson The sisters walked home together. Fortune was quiet, thinking about how her hurry had made her forget what was important. Favor shared her bananas with her sister so she wouldn't be hungry. When they got home, their mother gave Favor the ribbon. But Favor didn't put it in her own hair. She cut it in half and tied a piece around Fortune’s wrist. "Fortune is what you try to grab," their mother said softly, "but Favor is what comes back to you when you are kind." From that day on, the sisters of Igoji were known for two things: Fortune’s speed and Favor’s heart—but they always walked to the market together.
