According to section 2(h) of the Indian Trade Union Act, 1926: Trade union is a combination whether temporary or permanent formed primarily for the purpose of regulating the relation between workmen and employers, workers and workers or between employers and employers. Features of a Trade Union A trade union is a permanent rather than a temporary or a casual combination because it aims to protect the interest of employees perpetually. The membership is voluntary i.e. there is no legal or political pressure on the employees to become its part. Trade union always acts or performs through the united actions of members to protect their economic and other interests. Members of a trade union have a common interest which motivates them to unite them for their concerns and issues. They may be working for various employers and can also be at different locations. Industrial Union: Here all the workers working in a same industry form a union. For examples workers of automobile industry. General Union: Here workers of various industries like electronic, construction, food etc form a union for getting their concerns addressed.
