Anchuruli Tunnel (also known as Anjuruli Tunnel) is a scenic man-made tunnel located in Kanchiyar Panchayat, Idukki District, Kerala, India. The circular tunnel is about 5.5 km (3.4 miles) long and was built to transport water from Erattayar Dam to the Idukki Reservoir for hydroelectric power generation. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction known for its unique circular design, dramatic entrance, and beautiful natural surroundings. When the water level is low, visitors can walk inside the tunnel, making it an exciting spot for travelers and photographers. The name “Anchuruli” means “Five Vessels” in Malayalam, referring to five hilltops shaped like inverted vessels that appear when the reservoir’s water level drops. Located about 3 km from Kanchiyar along the Kattappana–Kuttikkanam State Highway, the area is surrounded by forests, hills, and scenic viewpoints. The tunnel gained wider attention after scenes from the Malayalam film Iyobinte Pusthakam (2014) were filmed there, further boosting its popularity as a destination where engineering and natural beauty meet.
