Part 5 of a 1-day workshop on Integrating spirit, soul & body in healthcare: The vast majority of mankind has a spiritual worldview. However, modern medicine offers very little scope for spirituality other than recognising certain religious restraints on healthcare practices. Although Christianity is the predominant world religion, it is not homogenous. There are many doctrinal divisions making any religious approaches to health care issues problematic even from within the Christian faith spectrum; this is amplified between different religions. On 27 September 2013, Dr Frans Cronje presented a 1-day workshop in Singapore on Integrating Spirit-Soul-Body Dimensions in Healthcare. The objective was to offer Christian Health Care Professionals (HCP) a broader perspective on the importance of recognising and addressing the spiritual needs of their patients without breaching professional ethical conduct. These recordings provide inter alia some introductory background on (1) his personal medical and spiritual journey; (2) how to avoid the dangers of approaching healthcare recipients with a religious agenda; (3) why it is so important that we focus on the relationship rather than the remedies; (4) how we can model the richness and complexity of spiritual, psychological and physical dimensions in a way that allows us better perspective and a means to communicate them with others without causing prejudice or alienation; and (5) how focusing on the patient's spiritual 'physiological' needs (rather than approaching them with a religious agenda) permits greater capacity for compassion and a freedom of conversation to bring about comfort, understanding, healing, growth and change.
