Probably not so much of interest for the general public because this thing is slightly too big for your average lawn mower engine .... Anyway, it shows a way of calibrating larger dynamometers without shifting a huge amount of cal-weights back and forth several times. This particular example is rated for around 10000 Nm and a maximum speed of 4000 rpm, max power rating is around 1800 kW or 2500 hp. The process itself isn't new, but for some reasons not very popular. With a bit of practice it produces very good and repeatable results. One of the most important factors is using the right jack and a few other little things which i would call "trade secrets" This particular calibration was a bit of an odd-ball, because the customer only requested a Voltage/Torque plot/spreadsheet. Apparently he has a means of displaying a torque reading from that. The standard process is a full system calibration which includes the whole signal path from the load cell to the number on the control system screen. In this case only the dyno, the load cell and the strain gauge amplifier were involved in the process, not exactly ideal, but works fine if it's understood that the absolute error might be higher than usual. Sorry for the annoying noise level, there was a big Hydrovane compressor running behind me and the guy with the angle grinder was just doing his job. I could not postpone it either because the thing needed to get out of the door. This footage is supposed to be for entertainment only and is by no means an instructional for any of the products shown. (c) 2017 www.dynoguy.co.uk
