He began formal piano lessons at 7 and in 1958, took up the guitar. Some of his early influences were Buddy Holly and The Crickets, Scotty Moore, James Burton, and The Everly Brothers. Albert quit school and turned professional in 1959 playing with a succession of R&B, country and rock bands. International recognition happened in the 1970s. In 1971, he performed with Deep Purple's keyboard player Jon Lord on the studio recording of Lord's Gemini Suite. That same year, he recorded a self-titled album with his current band, Heads Hands & Feet. Four more albums followed before Albert relocated to Los Angeles in 1974. There, he started working with The Crickets, pursued session and road work, and in 1976, joined Emmylou Harris' The Hot Band, replacing one of his early heroes, James Burton. In 1979, Albert recorded his oft-postponed solo album, which included the definitive version of his song “Country Boy”. The song helped redefine country guitar for a generation of players, and was later a hit for Ricky Skaggs. In 1983, Albert was responsible for The Everly Brothers' reunion concert. He played regularly with the Everlys for more than twenty years. Albert met Eric Clapton when they both played on a recording session for Marc Benno. In January 1979. Eric asked him join his band as second guitarist. Albert toured and recorded with EC until March 1983 and can be heard on the albums Just One Night, Another Ticket, and Money & Cigarettes. Albert was a part of Eric's 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2019 Crossroads Guitar Festivals. From 1987 to 2015, he toured and recorded with his band, Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes. His most recent album, Gypsy Man - A Tribute To Buddy Holly, was released last year. Discover more at https://albertleeofficial.com _____________________________________
