Esther Kahn (1877-1962) was born in London, English, and whilst her family emigrated to Australia when she was five - in the same year as her first public performance on the piano. She maintained a connection to European musical traditions throughout her life. As well as playing a full part in the musical life of Sydney, she went on to become one of the first music therapists in Australia. The piece selected here, folk-style melodic line with your ear as it moves from the top of the texture, to the bottom, and then to the middle, making sure it can be heard ringing out over the busy, water-like accompaniment.
