If a pregnant woman drinks, she risks giving her baby brain damage known as fetal alcohol syndrome, also known as FAS. When a pregnant woman drinks, the baby drinks as well. Everytime the mother has a drink, the baby has a drink. The alcohol goes directly through the placenta into the babies blood. The mother can detoxify her system by the enzymes in her liver acting on the alcohol. The babies liver isnt developed.
