When to repot deciduous bonsai trees

Bonsai trees are grown in fairly small, shallow containers. The roots of the trees fill these pots after a period of time. The trees become pot-bound at this stage, which is detrimental to its health. Bonsai growers take the trees out of the pots at this stage, pruning the roots back with scissors before planting the tree back into the pot. We call this repotting. The timing of this repotting is important when working with deciduous trees. In this video, we have a look at some deciduous bonsai trees and discuss the best time of year to repot them. This will generally be in early spring, when the buds are fattening up but before they the leaves have emerged.
