NEWS CONFERENCE: On Thursday afternoon, Metro Police Deputy Chief Dori Koren discusses the use of drones in police investigations and reveals new details about the Mobile Drones as a First Responder (Mobile DFR) pilot program. LVMPD is taking policing to the future with our innovative drone program! Did you know that LVMPD is utilizing drones in various ways, from SWAT operations to search and rescue missions, crash investigations to major event security like the F1 and Super Bowl? And now, we're introducing something groundbreaking: Mobile Drones as a First Responder (Mobile DFR)! Our Mobile DFR pilot program is gearing up to equip marked patrol units with high-tech drones and two dedicated officers. The marked units would respond to urgent calls like foot pursuits or violent crimes in progress. Our Mobile DFR unit will swiftly arrive and deploy drones for instant situational awareness and added community safety. We're committed to transparency every step of the way. Just like our K9 unit responds to priority calls, our Mobile DFR unit will be there, ensuring public safety while upholding privacy, civil rights, and liberties. In fact, we've invited the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to evaluate our policies and procedures, and they've recognized our robust safeguards in place. Your trust and privacy matter to us. Stay tuned for more updates as LVMPD continues to lead the way in innovative policing for a safer, more connected community.
