As part of the continuously growing military cooperation between the U.S. and Algeria, Major General David R. Hogg, Commander of U.S. Army Africa arrived in Algeria on December 5 for a two-day-visit. Major General Hogg held meetings on the first day of his visit with President Bouteflika's advisor on terrorism Kamel Rezzag Bara. He also met Major General Ahcene Tafer, Commander of Algerian Land Forces, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense and co-President of the Joint Military Dialogue Major General Ahmed Senhadji. Discussions concerned the reinforcement of military and security cooperation between the U.S. and Algeria. The visit was an opportunity to reaffirm U.S. support for Algeria's efforts in fight against terrorism, and to gain insight from Algeria's considerable experience in this area. Major General Hogg held a press conference at the Embassy on the second of his visit, where he described U.S.-Algerian joint efforts to promote security cooperation. At the end of his visit, the Major General enjoyed a tour of the Algerian Military Museum.
