BACKCOUNTRY SKIING Berthoud Pass + Winter Park Van Life | RV Living and Colorado Snowpack

This week, we packed up and rolled out of Summit County and into Winter Park, Colorado, settling in for a few days of winter camping in G-Lot and leaning fully into full-time van life in the mountains. Cold mornings, snowy nights, and quiet mountain views made it the perfect basecamp for everything that followed. While posted up in Winter Park, we squeezed in a stop at Big Trout Brewing before diving headfirst into a big stretch of backcountry skiing at Berthoud Pass. Over the course of four days, we chased turns, soaked up high alpine views, and enjoyed that classic Berthoud rhythm of early starts, windy ridgelines, and rewarding descents. After a few long days in the backcountry, we took a much-needed reset with a shower and workout at the Grand County Rec Center, one of our favorite ways to stay sane, clean, and moving during winter van life. From there, we dropped down to Denver for a quick change of pace, meeting up with friends for holiday activities at Linger, sneaking in another workout at Planet Fitness, and even helping host a baby shower for friends — a reminder that life on the road still leaves room for community. We wrapped things up back in the mountains with a day at Arapahoe Basin, catching some fun resort laps and riding with Jamie’s best friend Bridget, which felt like the perfect balance after so much time in the backcountry. Between Winter Park camping, Berthoud Pass touring, resort snowboarding, and van life logistics, this week was a full-circle look at what winter travel really looks like on the road.
