Anyways, YouTube made me audioswap the original version of this montage a long time ago (to add insult to injury, the video is still partially blocked despite supposedly having audioswapped copyright-safe music), so I'm reuploading it in its full glory. I have deleted the old upload, which was painful as it had over 200,000 views but it's the right thing to do to prevent engagement cannibalization. Anyways, here's a lengthier review of this montage than my original one, split up into gamplay, editing, and afterword. Gameplay ----------------- As you might have guessed from the title, the gameplay is what makes this montage stand out. To get it out of the way: Yes, a good amount of the opponents in this montage are painfully non-interactive (even for social). However, we need to keep in mind that this montage came out over 12 years ago and within less than 1 year of Halo 3's release. Back in that day, a clean snipe killtacular in multi-team was still a solid clip, and Kampy is one-upping that in pretty much every single clip in this entire montage. This montage is essentially a multikill and medal extravaganza. I remember when it first came out - I went into almost every clip expecting it to end after the overkill or killtacular, and Kampy just kept pushing it higher and higher. Even when I watched it prior to writing this review, there were some clips that surprised me like that. The social gameplay in this montage is unbelievable and single-handedly rocketed the bar to the moon. There's also some MLG gameplay to keep things diverse, and overall, there's a good amount of clips from under pressure that make the footage more impressive. And of course, the killimanjaro spawn kill no scope headshot extermination is absolutely legendary. Editing ----------------- You guys have heard me say this countless times, but it's true here too: The editing gets the job done, plain and simple. Kampy was still relatively new to editing when editing this montage, but he was still able to make the flow work with the basic tools he had access to. There's enough syncing to make the gameplay and music seem harmonious, and this is done without obstructing the wonderful gameplay, no ugly color correction or cheesy needed. Through a mix of cuts, cross-fades, playback speed altering, and a few angles here and there, the editing hits the proper high notes, most importantly with the sick jaro for the finale. Afterword ----------------- If you really want to get an understanding of how good this montage is, I would probably still upload it today as a new montage if I was still running the montage game, old-school 720p quality and all. The gameplay is honestly just that good, and I personally consider this a classic.
