Reports were mixed — some boats finding fish, others struggling — and with the ocean blown out by 5–6 foot seas, the river was our only option. At sunrise, we joined the crowds near Warrior Rock, where boats were stacked in conveyor-belt fashion. It’s not my favorite way to fish, but when that’s where the salmon are, sometimes you’ve got to grind it out. We kept working, switching gear, asking around, and watching others hook up until things finally clicked. After a slow morning, the bite turned on around 9:30. Running Mexican Hat spinners, Pro-Troll flashers, and E-Plugs, we finally hooked into fish. Between lost takedowns and near misses, we managed to land two keeper Chinook before heading in. They weren’t the biggest, but they’ll be perfect for the smoker, and that’s a win on the last day of the season. What stood out most was the good etiquette on the water. Boats worked together, gave room, and kept things courteous — something you don’t always see in a crowd like that. We’re not professionals — just a family that loves fishing on the weekends, showing that anyone can come out here, put in the effort, and take home fish. Sometimes you hit it big, sometimes you struggle, but that’s salmon fishing. 📍 Location: Scappoose Bay → Warrior Rock, Columbia River 🎣 Target: Chinook Salmon 🛠️ Gear Used: Mexican Hat Spinners, Pro-Troll Flashers, Pro-Troll E-Plugs 🐟 Catch: 2 keeper Chinook 👉 Subscribe to Bride Outdoors for more Columbia River fishing, salmon tips, and our upcoming hunting adventures this fall. 👍 Like, 💬 Comment, and 🔔 Hit the bell — it helps us keep sharing the journey.
