Prices for stand mixers can vary widely, from the very expensive kitchen aid models to extremely inexpensive $50 mixers. So what are you getting when you purchase the Lexus version versus the… Honda Civic? Here, I’ll compare and contrast two mixers I’ve recently been able to try out and see how they stack up. Build quality When it comes to build quality, not surprisingly you get what you pay for. Kitchen aids artisan stand mixer is made entirely of metal, it feels heavy, substantial, and truly like a piece that will last a lifetime. A mixer like the Aucma by comparison is made entirely of plastic with some metal components such as the whisk blades. Both the KitchenAid and the Aucma have a stainless steel mixing bowl, and both bowls feel equally ddurable. While the Aucma has suction cup feet for stability, kitchen aid mixer's weight is more enough to hold it in place and make it very stable. Conversely, if you won't be able to keep your mixer out on the counter and will constantly be taking it in and out of a cabinet, you might want some thing that is lighter weight. And in that case the Aucma might be a better choice. Speeds & Mixing power Simply put the KitchenAid has 10 speedds while the Aucma has 6, so on a raw numbers game, you could say KitchenAid comes out on top. Sometimes those highest speeds could be a little too much and batter splatters or flour bombs might fly out of the KitchenAid. So I generally didn't use the machine on its highest settings. But it’s not about how fast you can go, and more about what you can do with your speeds. I had a chance to use both of these mixers over a few weeks. I tried them both on things like cake batters, whipped cream and meringues, and bread dough. I can confidently say it when it came to raw mixing power and the ability to handle various baking related tasks, these machines both did a great job. I wouldn't say one was far superior to the other since they both got the job done. Attachments When it comes to what you get with each machine, here we are on precisely even footing. Each machine comes with a whisk attachment, the hook, and batter beater. There is also a splatter guard shield option for both models. Where there might be some discrepancy is in how the attachments clip in, and their specific build quality. The KitchenAid attachments all use a sturdy metal pin and are made entirely of metal. They seem durable and long-lasting. The Aucma attachments by comparison have some plastic parts, they’re a little harder to put on due to a spring and pin connector… and I worry that spring might not last. Cleanup When it comes to clean up, both mixer models can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth. The bowls and attachments can go into the dishwasher and they clean up easily. KitchenAid recommends the wire whisk on its model not be placed into the dishwasher as it can discolor. Price Where the rubber meets the road for a lot of us is with price. A KitchenAid stand mixer is certainly more of an investment than some other models. But if a KitchenAid is not in your price range, it may not matter how great it is. We can save and aspire, sure, but what if you need some extra help in the kitchen now? A budget model can fill the gap. If you’ve got the budget, a KitchenAid is a wonderful mixer to add to your kitchen and you’ll probably have it for life. If that kind of a spend isn’t in the cards, or you need something just for now, the Aucma stand mixer held up really well against the Kitchen Aid in my testing.
