Hello, friends! 👋 Today, I’m restoring a unique German Rеady lighter from 1935. This lighter was sent to me by one of my subscribers. He told me he found it in his grandfather’s garage, among old tools, and remembered it after watching one of my videos. He decided to send it to me as a gift. I was really happy and gladly accepted this restoration project! The main problem with the lighter was the broken gears in the mechanism. But with the help of epoxy metal adhesive and some good old soldering, I was able to bring it back to life! 🔧 The lighter is made of two different metals: zinc and steel. The body had noticeable corrosion, and the metal was dull from age. However, using my tried and tested cleaning method, which I’ll share with you, I was able to get rid of the rust and restore its shine! ✨ My recipe for removing corrosion is: 100g citric acid, 10g salt, and 100ml hydrogen peroxide for every liter of water. I’ve been using this formula for a while, and it works perfectly every time! After removing the rust, I repaired the broken gears, cleaned, and polished all the parts. I coated the steel parts with copper and then a shiny nickel coating to prevent further corrosion, while the zinc parts were treated with a special solution to passivate the metal and prevent future tarnishing. 🔥 Honestly, I’m really happy with the result and the whole process! Restoring old items is not only fun but gives these pieces a second life. 💯 I hope you enjoy the result too!
