The theme of this episode is for our participants is put themselves in a position to manage the future, but in order to do that, they have to acknowledge their own past, that of South Africa and the hurt that was part of it all. First and foremost, they need to be sure of our own identity. They are tasked with making a collage: The South Africa of the past; the South Africa they’d like to see and their place in it. They are given an instruction to work as a team which they ignore… The three participants in this series are Mashudu Luthanda from Thembisa, Precious Sefulavo from Zuurbekom and Lumka Menye from White City, Soweto. Welcome to our 11th series of It’s for Life, the show where three worthy young participants embark on a journey not only of self discovery but also discovery of the world around them. This time, we’re going to focus on the changes, good and bad, in that have taken place in South Africa over the last 40 years. On June 16th 2016, we commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the Soweto student uprising. Young people had valid reasons for stepping into revolution: Bantu Education and the enforcement of Afrikaans as the language of instruction were a reflection of those dark days where Black people lived chained by the shackles of Apartheid.
