EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Stars Game 23 | The Stars Blunt the Sabres' Edge in DAL

The Dallas Stars recovered a bit of pride with a 3-0 shut-out against San Jose after suffering their first loss of the season to the Flyers. Next they hosted the Buffalo Sabres for Game 23. The Stars had the pressure on in the 1st and scored first just 3:18 into the game. Mike Modano beat Dominik Hasek tight to the post glove-side off short drop pass from Dave Gagner in front. Then only 2:03 later Modano went top-glove again on the powerplay with a backhander from right on front off a nice pass by Mike Donnelly. Modano finished off his natural hat-trick with another backhander top-glove bar-down from between the hashes off a nice pass from the wing by Trent Klatt. Dallas had the coveted 3-goal lead at 3-0 at the break. Shots after the 1st period were DAL 20 and BUF 4. Hasek was solid but the Stars had the lead. Dallas kept up the pressure and Derian Hatcher joined the fun showing a great nose for the net going top-glove from out in front off fine pass from Modano down low in the corner at the 1:50 mark of the 2nd. Dominik Hasek left the game and Robb Stauber came in after that. Buffalo trimmed the lead back to 3 goals with 12:01 to go in the 2nd when Craig Simpson scored with a long backhander from the wing on the powerplay off a pass from Alexander Mogilny. Andy Moog got a piece of it with his stick but not enough to save his shut-out bid. The rest of the 2nd period was tighten-up and ended 4-1 for Dallas. Shots at the 2nd break were DAL 35 and BUF 10. Dallas were able to beat Stauber only once before the end the of the game. Trent Klatt sent a hard shot from the face-off dot in the circle on his wing that beat Stauber tight to the post glove-side off a pass from Gagner in front. Great work by Gagner to make the hit-and-steal in front of the net and then circle and wait for Klatt to be ready on the wing. The game ended 5-1 for Dallas but kudos went to Robb Stauber for a fine 0.966 save percentage on the 29 shots he faced. Enjoy!
