Another video of the Laowa 9mm. Continuing my growing love affair with this fantastic lens on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera HD. Up to this point I've gotten away with using the aperture ring on the lens along with occasionally speeding up of the shutter angle to maintain exposure. However with all the fast action within this video which includes running, wind and waves I was very happy to keep my shutter angle at 180. The lens is a great fast handheld lens. Its compact, light and wide enough to make most images look stable. When the footage does show camera movement I feel its a very natural type of movement which I far prefer over a stabilised sensor or lens. This does rely on the correct shutter speed however which is why this ND test is so crucial. As usual, everything shot in raw, I set my iso at 800 whilst filming and within the edit. Graded and edited in Davinci Resolve. I keep my zebras at 100% on the camera. Moving on, I think I would rather have a non variable ND. I'm not sure how many stops yet but I would prefer maintaining exposure primarily using the aperture ring rather than balancing between the aperture and a variable ND. This would offer the speed and simplicity needed for when filming in town with the family. More footage to come of the Laowa 9mm as well as some Nikon lenses mounted on the Pocket. The Variable ND used was Tiffen branded. Music, Kevin MacLeod - Thatched Villagers
