The intrauterine device is a device placed inside the uterus for medical purposes. It is usually of 2 types a) Copper T which is primarily used for contraception b) Medicated IUD which is used both for contraception and for treating various menstrual disorders. The IUD has a life ranging from 5 to 10 years after which it needs to be removed or replaced. Insertion can be a little discomforting but removal is a straightforward process of catching the two threads hanging in the vagina through the mouth of the womb and pulling the IUD out in a second. Sometimes, the IUD gets displaced inside the womb or the thread gets coiled and thus cannot be seen in the vagina. This makes removal difficult. If the thread cannot be seen easily, the Hysteroscopy is required which is a small daycare procedure wherein short anaesthesia is given and a telescope is inserted into the womb. Under the vision, another instrument is guided into the womb and the IUD is brought out with its help. Copper T is 99.9% effective as a contraceptive and can stay inside for 10 years before it needs to be replaced. Medicated IUD popularly sold in the international market as @MIRENA is very effective both as a contraceptive and also for controlling endometriosis, adenomyosis, heavy and painful menstrual periods. many a uterus removal or hysterectomy can be avoided by its use. #mirena #iud #iuddevice #intrauterinedevice #contraception #coppert #copperiucd #drrajeevagarwal #renewhealthcare #heavybleeding #painfulperiods #endometriosis #adenomyosis #bestgynaecologist #laparoscopicsurgeon #hysteroscopy #misplacedthread #displacediud #missingiucd #missingiud #removalofiucd #kolkatagynaecologist #menorrhagia #dysmenorrhoea
