Choreographed by Sarah Cassin & Henrietta De Assis In ballet, dancers play characters, they embody stories where their physical interactions display emotional connections and the coherent flow of music enhances this. Although no words are ever spoken, the audience understands each feeling of betrayal, joy, heartbreak and laughter through the interconnectedness of those on stage. When an art form demands such a sacrifice from you, the line between playing and becoming a character can be blurred. Ballet requires a sacrifice of part of yourself. You have to become ballet. And this sacrifice can often lead to conflicting emotions towards it. Some days its love, others its hate, often its pain and sometimes its joy. But in the end, we always seem to go back to it. Even years after leaving it behind, ballet has a way of pulling you back in somehow. In this piece, we are going to bring to light the dangers and fulfillment of committing to those characters and also show the beauty of how the human interactions of those on stage can interconnect with those who watch and leave lasting memories.
