This panel discussion examined the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on families across the United States, with special attention to the struggles of parents trying to keep their families healthy while ensuring that their kids can continue to develop mentally, emotionally, and physically. Speakers were June Gruber (@junegruber), associate professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder and director of the Positive Emotion and Psychopathology Laboratory; Steven Berkowitz, a professor in psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus; and Kendra Parris (@DrKendraParris), a psychologist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Aditi Subramaniam (@Aditi789), a neuroscience PhD turned freelance science writer, moderated the discussion. She writes on the Psychology Today website on parenting from a neuroscience perspective, and is a science contributor to the Deccan Herald online. This was the third event in the fall 2020 public series "COVID-19 Science & Coverage," presented by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (@sciencewriting) and the National Association of Science Writers (@sciencewriters).
