Opening Day of the GreenWay Trail

Today I’m heading into the city to meet a friend at the metro, then on to Waterloo Station before a short ride over to Omafiets Bicycle Shop. From there, I’m joining their guided ride to celebrate the official opening of the GreenWay. After nearly two decades of campaigning by the Inner West community and local councils, the full GreenWay route is now open — running from Parramatta Road through Lewisham West and Dulwich Hill, all the way to the Cooks River. The GreenWay is a six-kilometre environmental walking and cycling corridor linking the Cooks River at Earlwood with the Parramatta River at Iron Cove and the Bay Run. It largely follows the Inner West light rail and Hawthorne Canal, and includes shared paths, foreshore walks, cafés, cultural and historical sites, bushcare areas, and parks and sporting spaces along the way. It takes about 25 minutes to ride or 75 minutes to walk. It’s opening day, it’s busy, and there’s a lot happening — so sit back and enjoy the ride.
